Pilot Associations between Adverse Childhood Experiences, Executive Function, and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) among Adults with Excess Adiposity

چکیده

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) may predict markers of neurocognitive performance (i.e., executive function; EF) and brain health/plasticity brain-derived neurotrophic factor; BDNF). This pilot examined: (1) ACES history current EF performance, (2) ACEs BDNF levels, (3) levels. We hypothesized that higher would be associated with lower scores these patterns serum Given the nature study, emphasis was placed on effect size vs. significance. Participants were 37 middle-aged women. Higher not directly (β = 0.08, p 0.635) but showed potentially meaningful negative beta coefficients proBDNF levels −0.22, 0.200) positive mature 0.28, 0.094). a relationship did reach significance (r 0.100) similar to 0.14, 0.406). In modest sample women excess weight, BDNF. Larger follow-up studies are warranted given detected theoretical implications obesity as neurocognitively toxic for health performance.

Evidence of associations between brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) serum levels and gene polymorphisms with tinnitus

BACKGROUND Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) gene polymorphisms are associated with abnormalities in regulation of BDNF secretion. Studies also linked BDNF polymorphisms with changes in brainstem auditory-evoked response test results. Furthermore, BDNF levels are reduced in tinnitus, psychiatric disorders, depression, dysthymic disorder that may be associated with stress, conversion diso...

Action of brain-derived neurotrophic factor on function and morphology of visual cortical neurons

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is known to play a role in experience-dependent plasticity of the developing visual cortex. For example, BDNF acutely enhances long-term potentiation and blocks long-term depression in the visual cortex of young rats. Such acute actions of BDNF suggested to be mediated mainly through presynaptic mechanisms. A chronic application of BDNF to the visual cor...

Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in cardiometabolic physiology and diseases.

Important advances in our understanding of the relationships between adipose tissue derived peptides, namely adipokines, and their effects on cardiovascular functions have been achieved in recent years. Growing knowledge of adipokine biology is revealing the complexity of these proteins. Adipose tissue releases some other proteins called neurotrophins that are mainly active in central and perip...

Effect of Lithium on Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) Level in Patients with Ischemic Stroke: A Clinical Trial

Background and Objectives: Previous studies have indicated that lithium may increase the level of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which in turn improves the recovery of patients with stroke. In this controlled trial we evaluated the effect of lithium on BDNF serum level in patients with ischemic stroke. Methods: In this randomized controlled...
